The New York Times recently reported that:
“According to records from Arent Fox, the law firm based in Washington where Mr. Thompson worked part-time from 1991 to 1994, he charged the organization, the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association, about $5,000 for work he did in 1991 and 1992.”

In an interview conducted by Chris Wallace on the March 11, 2007, edition of “FOX News Sunday With Chris Wallace” the former senator/actor/minority counsel for the hearings surrounding the Watergate scandal Fred Thompson publicly stated his position on abortion and Roe vs. Wade:
WALLACE: As we said, perhaps the main reason that people are talking about you is this uneasy feeling among conservatives that there is not one of their own, a true conservative, in the field.
So let’s do a lightning round — quick questions, quick answers, a variety of issues — to see where Fred Thompson stands.
THOMPSON: Um hmm.
WALLACE: Abortion.
THOMPSON: Pro-life.
WALLACE: Would you like to overturn Roe. …
THOMPSON: You said lightning round, now. If you want …
WALLACE: Well, let’s go.
THOMPSON: … more, give me another question. I’ll work through it.
WALLACE: Do you want to overturn Roe vs. Wade?
THOMPSON: I think Roe vs. Wade was bad law and bad medical science. And the way to address that is through good judges. I don’t think the court ought to wake up one day and make new social policy for the country. It’s contrary to what it’s been the past 200 years.
We have a process in this country to do that. Judges shouldn’t be doing that. That’s what happened in that case. I think it was wrong.

The Washington Post reported July 21, 2007 both Fred Thompson’s and his chief spokesman Mark Corallo’s comments regarding Fred Thompson’s work for the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association:
Thompson said he had no recollection of his work for the group, which turned out to involve 22 separate discussions. His chief spokesman, Mark Corallo, said there was no documentation that he had done anything, and then, when billing records emerged, Corallo said it was “not unusual” for a lawyer at a firm to offer his counsel on a viewpoint he disagrees with.
