According to ABC News

the syndrome did not get a name until 2002, when the ‘Morgellons’ was selected by Mary Leitao, a South Carolina woman who founded the Morgellons Research Foundation.

It came from a 1674 medical paper that described symptoms somewhat like Morgellons, Leitao said. “I never expected it (the name) to stick,” she said.

Leitao’s organization has become a leading source of information and research advocacy, but it too has become controversial.

9 people thinks stuff!

  1. OK, this is just plain creepy.

Next to not wanting to find snakes in my bed, is not to have any lessions or crawly things under my skin…..

I hope CDC will give fair warning if this ever becomes an epidemic in my city, so I can move.

  2. I have enough weird skin sensations from carpal tunnel - now I’m minutely inspecting my hands for freaky fibers. [shudders] I would prefer to believe that they came from textiles or even animal fur than that they are parasites. I hope that more definitive information becomes available soon.

  3. I am a medical terminology instructor at a 2-year college and I had a student a couple of years ago who had been diagnosed with Morgellons disease after several years of pain and frustration and being told it was “all in her head”. Her doctor had done some research on Morgellons and found that it is linked in some cases to a virus that is sprayed on deli meats to kill any bacteria that might invade the meat. She had been a deli worker so this may have been the cause in her case. Here is a link to that information for anyone who is interested in reading more:http://www.dldewey.com/morgel.htm . That in itself is enough to keep me away from deli meats!

  4. If it is parasite-related, large doses of Kyolic garlic should show some effect on the patient.

  8. TENGO MERGELLONS Y AUNQUE MI DOCTOR NO LOS VEA YO SE QUE TENGO UNOS PEQUENOS PARASITOS HEMATOFAGOS RECORRIENDO MI PIEL,ESTOY CANSADA DE ESTE SUPLICIO Y QUISIERA QUE LE DEN LA IMPORTANCIA DEBIDA A ESTE PROBLEMA Y ENCUENTREN UNA SOLUCION PRONTO YA QUE MI VIDA COMO LA DE MUCHOS MAS SON TODO UN CAOS. NO ES FICCION, NI UNA ENFERMEDAD PSICOSOMATICA, SE QUE SON INSECTOS DIMINUTOS Y LAS FIBRAS LA HACEN ELLOS, COMO LOS ARACNIDOS QUE HACEN TELAS, NO DESCARTO QUE SEA UN ACARO DIMINUTO YA QUE PERTENECEN A LA FAMILIA DE LOS ARACNIDOS. CURSE 2 ENTOMOLOGIAS EN LA UNIVERSIDAD Y SE QUE HAY MUCHOS PARASITOS DIMINUTOS, ADEMAS C AMINAN SOBRE MI PIEL, LOS PUEDO SENTIR Y ME PICAN. HE GUARDADO ALGUNOS Y CREO QUE SON LOS ADULTOS SON TAN DIMINUTOS , PERO CREO QUE TIENEN UN ESTADIO NINFAL MUCHO MAS PEQUENO DIFICILMENTE VISTO SIN AYUDA DE UNA LUPA.OJALA HAGAN ALGO PRONTO YA PUSE BOMBAS INSECTIDAS EN MI RECAMARA, PERO SI NO ELIMINO LOS QUE TENGO ENCIMA ,NO SOLUCIONARE EL PROBLEMA Y PROBADO PERMETRIN Y NO HIZO EFECTO, ES NECESARIO CLASIFICAR CORECTAMENTE AL PARASITO PARA PODER ERRADICARLO. GRACIAS POR DARNOS LA OPORTUNIDAD DE EXPRESARNOS .
